Quad bikes and side-by-sides: the controls that actually save lives
Vehicles remain the leading killer on New Zealand farms. We look beyond helmets to crush protection, operator competency, and choosing the right machine for the job.
Agriculture & Horticulture
Practical Safety. Real Controls. Better Work.
Every farm and orchard works differently through the season. We walk the property with you, from the yards to the back paddock, to understand the vehicles, machinery, stock, and people before we recommend a single control.
Quad bikes and side-by-sides, PTO and machinery guarding, agrichemicals, working at height, and working with animals. We target the hazards that actually injure people on the land and build controls that hold up in the mud and the rush.
From permanent staff to seasonal and migrant workers, safety has to land fast and stick. We build inductions, training, and check-ins that keep everyone protected through calving, harvest, spraying, and the long days in between.
Agriculture & Horticulture
ProperSafe works with New Zealand farmers, growers, orchardists, and rural contractors. Agriculture is one of our most dangerous sectors, vehicles, machinery, animals, and long seasons add up, and generic safety templates rarely survive contact with real farm life.
We are not a paperwork business. We get on the property, understand how your operation actually runs through the season, and build controls your team will genuinely use, from the milking shed to the orchard rows.
What We Do
From farm safety systems through to vehicle and machinery controls, agrichemicals, and seasonal team inductions, practical support with no filler.
01
A complete, right-sized H&S system for your operation, hazard registers, policies, and records that satisfy WorkSafe and actually get used by the team, not left in a drawer.
02
Quad bikes, side-by-sides, tractors, and implements. Operator competency, crush-protection, PTO and machinery guarding, and safe-use rules for your highest-fatality risks.
03
Compliant storage, handling, and application of agrichemicals and fuels, inventories, signage, spray plans, and approved handler support that keeps people and product safe.
04
Fast, clear inductions and training that land with seasonal, RSE, and migrant teams, so everyone understands the risks from day one, in language they actually follow.
05
Independent walk-the-property audits that find real exposure, not just paperwork gaps. Plain-language reports with clearly ranked priorities you can act on this season.
06
Root cause analysis, corrective actions, and WorkSafe notification support when something goes wrong, so your operation learns from events rather than just records them.
Our Approach
Too many farm safety programmes default to the bottom of the hierarchy. A helmet gets handed out, a form gets signed, and the hazard stays exactly where it was. That is not safety. It is the appearance of safety.
ProperSafe focuses on the top three. We start by honestly mapping where your current controls sit, then work upward. Can the task be eliminated? Can a safer vehicle or method be substituted? Can the machine or the chemical be engineered so it cannot reach anyone?
Where administrative controls are genuinely the right answer, they still have to work. That is where NeuroSafe and our Safety Tech & AI practice come in: documents people actually read, and systems that keep a control alive instead of leaving it in a folder. See Safety Tech & AI →
The result is an operation where your people are protected by design, not by hoping everyone stays switched on at 5am in the rain. That is what practical safety looks like.
